How to add hold music to Grandstream (UCM)

4 steps · about 5 min

The steps

  1. 1Log in to the UCM admin Web GUI and go to PBX Settings → Music On Hold.
  2. 2Pick a Music on Hold class from the dropdown, or click Add to create a new one.
  3. 3Click Upload and choose your 8 kHz mono file (under 30 MB).
  4. 4The track lands in the class enabled by default; use the play icon and pick an extension to hear it before it goes live.
Format gotcha

The UCM wants an 8 kHz mono file. A normal stereo 44.1 kHz track may not play correctly — the “WAV · 8 kHz” download here is already mono and 8 kHz.

Or skip the hold entirely

Hold music makes waiting nicer. It doesn't answer the call. Lobby does — a warm AI receptionist that picks up 24/7, in English and Spanish, so callers never wait on hold in the first place.
